Paphiopedilum S. Gratrix

     S. Gratrix

  S.Gratrix 2

Registered a century ago, Paphiopedilum S. Gratrix is a primary slipper orchid hybrid between Paph bellatulum and godefroyae. Both species can prove to be a little difficult in cultivation, so this hybrid makes an excellent choice for those who enjoy these types of flowers.

While paph bellatulum has intensified the maroon spotting, the godefroyae parent has 'opened up' the flower somewhat, resulting in a improved form overall.

The flower shown is a first bloom on a single growth and is about
7 cms across!  The flowers last for about a month. The plant receives no special treatment, other than being kept slightly drier and cooler during the winter months. These paphiopedilums tend to like brighter light than other mottled-leaf paphs.
