This
slipper orchid was registered in 1996 by Khlem Grower
(Duane McDowell), Paph. Babyface is a cross of Via Muchos Ninos x barbigerum. The complex
parent, registered in 1975, is a green and white flower with insigne, spicerianum, and
villosum making up most of its parentage. Crossed to paph barbigerum, a
slipper orchid species which has not
been used often enough in breeding, the result is a delightful modern day
miniature paph; the clone pictured is a first-bloom seedling in a 2.5" deep pot! As expected, there is some variation in the few seedlings from this grex that we've grown, though all had good substance and were various shades of yellow, green, white, and tan. One seedling was of a more squat complex shape. Well grown, a paph such as this could easily yield several blooms in a 3.5" pot. Perfect for those with limited space. |
