Paph Mamie Wilson is a subtle flower in pastel tones. It is a primary hybrid between Paphiopedilum primulinum and lowii. As expected, it is a semi-sequential bloomer, producing three to four blooms, usually with two or sometimes three blooms open simlutaneously. Each bloom lasts for several weeks, resulting in a long flowering display. Paph primulinum has tamed the large growth habit of Paph lowii (this plant is of a manageable size, blooming at about 3O cms across). It has also lightened the otherwise dull brownish pouch of lowii to an unusual pale amber with a yellow edge. The ruffled (and shorter) petals also show the influence of primulinum, as does the widened dorsal. Paphiopedilum lowii in turn has contributed its large flower size,a long flowering stem, and distinctive pink-tipped petals. This slipper orchid hybrid also has a beautiful yellow-orange staminode overlaid with green netting. For those with limited space, paph Mamie Wilson provides an attractive alternative to Paph lowii. |
