This is a diminutive member of the pahiopedilum praestans (glanduliferum) complex. Many now consider a separate species.

The most striking feature of this orchid flower is the white dorsal with contrasting stripes. The petals are rich glossy  oxblood, while the pouch is yellow, heavily overlaid with mahogany red. An added bonus is the deep pink staminode.

This species is the most compact of the multiflorals and generally produces two to three blooms.

It can be grown along with other slipper orchids, enjoying warm temperatures, slightly brighter light, and ample moisture.

It has been used extensively in breeding in recent years, and is the parent of hybrids such as Susan Booth and Oklahoma.
